Chasing Horizons: A Drone Photographer’s View of Los Lunas

There’s a reason we’re drawn to horizons.
They’re not just where the sky meets the land — they’re where possibilities begin. As a drone photographer, I’ve come to realize that the best shots aren’t always about what’s in front of you. Sometimes, it’s about what’s just beyond it.
This post is about one of those moments — a simple evening flight over Los Lunas, New Mexico**, that turned into something much more than just a photo session.
The Story: Where Land Meets Possibility
Some people chase success.
Some chase sunsets.
I chase horizons — that quiet edge where the land ends and everything else begins.
That line in the distance has always pulled at me. It’s not about the destination — it’s the feeling that something new is just beyond what you can see. And with a drone, I get to follow that feeling — literally.
The other evening, flying over Los Lunas, I caught one of those moments.
The wind had just settled. The sun was low, brushing rooftops and fields with warm light. Tome Hill stood in the distance like it always does — steady, grounded — but this time, it looked different. From the air, everything does. The roads, the ridgelines, even the shadows feel like part of a bigger pattern.
I flew low at first, tracing the curve of a familiar road. Then I climbed higher. And there it was: the horizon. Not the kind you drive toward, but the kind that reminds you how much is still out there.
From the ground, it was the end of a day.
From above, it felt like the start of something.
That’s why I fly.
Not just for the views — but for the perspective.
And every time I chase the horizon, it reminds me why I started this journey in the first place.
